Kulaan pulled his oar out of the water and sighed as he held it steady on the board he and Rya shared, and tried to get his bearings. The board rocked a bit as Rya shifted at the feel of the cold water on her backside. She was being quiet. They had started on this trip a few hours ago and she had insisted on navigating. Against Kulaan’s better judgement he consented.
“Mm…what was that you said when we left the dock?” He questioned.
Turning her head she innocently batted her eyes at him .“That… I knew exactly where to go?”
Kulaan drummed his fingers on the oars handle. He tried to hide his smile as he looked down at her. “And where are we going? You do realize we’ve been out here for hours.”
She thought about it a moment and looked off to the direction of the sun and pointed that way. “See the light as it shines on the sea?”
“Yes . . .” He said cautiously.
“No one knows, how deep it goes.”
Kulaan groaned. He knew it! He should have known. “Don’t do this.” She was about to break out in song.
Rya grinned. “And it seems like it’s calling out to me ‘so come find me’.”
Kulaan put the oar back in the water and pushed off in the direction of the sun.
“What’s beyond that line, will I cross that line?”
“Not before we starve or die from dehydration.” Came his grumbled answer.
Ignoring his quip, Rya stretched out her arms as she continued in a sing-song voice, “The line where the sky meets the sea? It calls me. And no one knows, how far it goes.” She giggled into her hands and exhaled. Reaching down to let her fingers drag through the water.
Rya looked at Kulaan again and flashed him a smile. She knew he wasn’t really upset with them still being out on the water. “Thank you.”
Kulaan shrugged his shoulders and looked at her, a smirk playing on his lips. “What can I say except ‘you’re welcome.”
