The first time he saw her laying on the window sill he panicked, ran over, and pulled her back so fast she hardly knew what had happened. Their apartment was on the 27th floor so she could understand how he felt at seeing his girl laying half-way out the window. If she fell from that height she would get more than a bruise. Why had she done it? Her explanation had been that laying out there was oddly calming. That explanation didn’t go over as well as she expected and for the following few days he kept an eye on her. Though she stayed a comfortable distance away from the window, she felt it calling to her. On this particular evening she was left to her own devices. Outside the window she could hear the bustling of the busy city and the flicker of the neon lights against her window. She made her to the window and exhaled slowly as she opened the panes and leaned out. It was a long way down and she couldn’t debate that what she wanted to do was dangerous, but it was probably the danger involved that made it . . . relaxing. She laid down on the open sill, keeping her legs on the inside (telling herself that by doing so she was being safe) and rested an arm under the head. She had a good view of the stars from this position. The quiet night sky above and the busy city below combined to create a balance where she was in the middle. This was peaceful. Maybe this time she would be able to explain the feeling to him.
